The course was designed by Bert Stamps and opened in 1961. It is a par-71 layout. Fairways on the course are framed by mature trees that add to the challenge but also offer shade during those summer rounds.

The five par 3s on the course can make or break a round. They range from 179 yards to a knee-knocking 233 yards. They will challenge players’ distance control as well as accuracy.

The course offers a variety of ways to get around the course. Players can walk the golf course, use a cart or test out the GolfBoards, a surf board on wheels that adds another dimension to the round.

Las Vegas National, one of Vegas’ oldest and most unique courses, uses strategic bunkering, an assortment of water features, those more than 1,400 massive trees (shade in the summer!) and subtle elevation changes to give players a round of golf that has survived the test of time.

In terms of history, the course is nearly unmatched in the Las Vegas Golf Region. It was home to the famed Rat Pack. It was featured in the film ‘Casino’. It was the site of professional golf tour stops (Tiger Woods played the course in 1996 when he won his first PGA Tour title and the LPGA Tour played a major there from 1961-66). It is also home to the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame exhibit, which is free in the clubhouse.

If you’re looking for a course with history, playability, charm and challenge, this one should be on your list to play.
