There were so many accomplishments and successes for the 2024-25 UNLV Women’s Golf team. Their season concluded with an appearance at the 2025 NCAA Women’s Golf Championships at La Costa, but that is just part of the story.
“At the start of the season we set our goals high,” said Amy-Bush Herzer, head coach. “This team accomplished every goal and I am extremely proud of them for their constant fight and grit.”
On the course, the Rebels dazzled with eight top 5 finishes and the Mountain West Conference Championship and another victory at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate. The Rebels entered the NCAA Finals ranked 35th in the country.
The team and coaches were dealt a shocking blow when their top player, Toa Yokoyama elected to play in the Epson Tour event in Utah instead of joining the team for the NCAA Finals.
Senior Mayumi Umezu made the individual cut to the final round of stroke play while the team finished 28th.
Playing their final rounds as Rebels, senior McKenzi Hall (+10) tied for 109th and senior Hina Matsui (+25) placed 153rd after they shot a final-round 77. Sophomore Zi Yu Foong (+8), who carded a team-best 2-under 70 in the third round, tied for 100th to end her first season as a Rebel as the squad’s second-highest finisher. Wrapping things up for the Scarlet & Gray, freshman Amber Chen (+27) came away with a 154th-place finish in her postseason debut.
As a team, the Rebels (+46) concluded their national championship scoring with a grit and recorded their best round of the weekend at 299 (+11), besting their second-round score by two shots and first-round tally by 11 shots.
Off the course, the program debuted the new UNLV Women’s Golf Excellence Center at The Las Vegas Country Club, a “game changer” for program performance and recruiting.
UNLV women’s golf head coach Amy Bush-Herzer was also placed on the watch list for the 2024-25 Division I Jackie Steinmann WGCA National Coach of the Year Presented by Golf Pride, the WGCA announced Tuesday. The award recipient will be announced after the upcoming NCAA Championships.
