A long history of iconic moments in golf have been captured in the city of Las Vegas. One of these moments includes Tiger Woods’ first PGA Tour victory at the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational. The tournament was a unique one that included 90 holes on three different courses–TPC Summerlin, Las Vegas Hilton Country Club (now Las Vegas National), and Desert Inn.
It was the first career PGA Tour victory for Woods.
Woods was able to secure the win after a sudden-death playoff with the past champion Davis Love III. Tiger was awarded a sponsor’s exemption by the Las Vegas Founders Club, which allowed him to play in the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational.
Although it was only his fifth professional tournament he was able to make the most of it and secure a win. The iconic win was secured on the 18th hole of TPC Summerlin. Tiger has always enjoyed Vegas golf and it was special to win in the City that Glitters.
“You always remember that first one, and it was kind of cool that it happened in Vegas. I’ve always loved Las Vegas and I’ve always felt good vibes there. I have some great memories of Vegas – on and off the golf course. A lot of people that I respect and who have helped my career live in Las Vegas so it’s always nice to go back. I have some very strong ties to Vegas… you never forget where you win that first one as a professional. I liked Vegas before I won there, and I still never miss a chance to stop in Vegas when I’m out west.”
