Winning a State Amateur golf title is what most amateur golfers dream about. And that is exactly what McKenzi Hall, Ronda Henderson and Cristy Esposo did in July 2024 as they won their divisions in the event played at Bears’s Best Las Vegas. –Story contributed to by Bill Bowman.
Each deeply appreciated the magnitude of winning a title.
“It means the world to me to win such a prestigious event,” Hall said of her Championship division win. “This has been a tournament I’ve wanted to win for a while now. I’ve come close in the past but to finally get it done means so much to me…especially since this is my hometown. Knowing that I checked this off my list makes me very proud of myself.”
Henderson, one of the best golfers in Nevada State Women’s Golf history, won the Silver State Gross division.
“I see the names of the women who have won state titles, sometimes several state titles, and I want my name there alongside this elite group of players,” she said. “All of these players shaped women’s competitive golf in Nevada. It’s inspiring to know I am included in that group of women.”
Esposo, a Chimera Women’s Golf Association member, was a little stunned with the win.
“I’m still in shock, actually,” Esposo said. “I really wasn’t expecting to win but I just played pretty well all three days. Everyone is texting me. It’s a pretty awesome feeling … state net champion.”
