For the second time in two years, Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. hosted an NCAA National Championship. Walking away with titles were a dominant team and a dominant player: Dallas Baptist University and Madison Murr from Cal-State San Marcos.
Another champion for the week was Boulder Creek Golf Club along with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and host school, UNLV.
“Oh man, the golf course was in phenomenal shape,” said Kenny Trapp, Dallas Baptist head coach. “We played it in the fall and it was good, but I thought this week it was one of the best shaped courses we played all year long. The golf course sets up very well for us, and I knew that.”
For Murr, it was her 10th collegiate title and fifth of the year. This event was her final as a collegian.
“It’s been the best four years of my life and I’m really going to miss the team,” Murr said. “I am grateful for everyone and to play for San Marcos. I tried to enjoy the last few holes and just take it all in. But I played very well today. It’s a good way to end my college career.”
Dallas Baptist put on a show by beating both the top-ranked and second-ranked teams in the country and then winning the final against Central Missouri 4-1 in match play. It is the program’s third title in five years.
“It’s honestly the best time of my life the last five years,” said Jordan Karrh, senior. “I am sad that it’s come to an end, but I’m happy how it ended. Three national titles later, it was a heck of a career. I am kind of stunned at the moment.”
Teammate Sidney Robertson was also basking in the glory of the victory and sharing it with her teammates.
“It’s just such a surreal experience being able to be on a team with some of your best friends and being able to play the sport that you love and do it all together,” Robertson said.
Playing for Dallas Baptist were Robertson, Karrh, Eryn Garza (sub), Madison Ude, Ella Cheek, and Gracie Grant.
