Legacy Golf Club is the site of a heart-warming golf event on Oct. 20 as the Kevin Geary Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for the course. In 2023, the event raised $16,000 in honor of Kevin Geary, who passed away in 2019. The tournament combines his love for golf and soccer with a mission to support Las Vegas charities focused on mental health.
“We’re excited to see everyone come together to honor Kevin’s memory through this tournament. Not only will it be a day of fun and remembrance, but the proceeds will support those facing mental health struggles and contribute to the Kevin Geary Soccer Scholarship Fund,” said Tammy Geary, Kevin’s mother.

The event will raise funds for the Kevin Geary Soccer Scholarship Program and a Southern Nevada Mental Health Organization that will be chosen in 2025. Last year’s event proceeds included $6000 to soccer scholarships and $10,000 to the Nevada division for NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, which focuses on their Nevada Warmline and Teen Peer Support Text Line.
Over the years, the tournament has raised more than $60,000 for local organizations and continues to support the Kevin Geary Soccer Scholarship Program. Recent scholarship recipients included high school seniors Miles Buehler and Dmitri Mendez.
“I will be the first out of my siblings to go to college,” said Mendez. “I plan to study mechanical engineering while also playing soccer.”
The 2024 goal is to surpass the amount from 2023, continuing the event’s legacy of supporting mental health initiatives in the Las Vegas community. Lake Mead Wellness Center, Renewing Life Center, Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth and Teen Challenge have benefited from the tournament in past years.
The day begins with check-in and breakfast at 6:30 am, followed by shotgun start at 7:30 am. After the tournament, participants can enjoy a luncheon, raffles and an awards ceremony to wrap up the day.
Golfers of all skill levels are encouraged to register to play.
