It is very appropriate that Joe Kelly serves as the director of golf at Las Vegas National Golf Club because his history is a good match for the course that opened in 1961. As of his induction into the Southwest Section< PGA of America Hall of Fame, he now is a member of the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame, Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame and the Callaway Golf Professionals Hall of Fame.
“It’s a major honor to be involved in that, and especially to be only the second person in 40 years from Las Vegas to receive the honor,” Kelly said. “After 50 years in golf in Las Vegas, it’s a great honor to be nominated and voted in unanimously by my peers in the Southwest Section. I am so appreciative because I have dedicated my life to the sport. This is the highest level I’ve achieved, and I don’t take it lightly.”

Las Vegas National Golf Club–opened as the Stardust Country Club in 1961–has hosted LPGA Tour and PGA Tour events, was where the movie Casino was filmed, and one of three courses used when Tiger Woods won on the PGA Tour for the first time. He shot 70 during the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational.
Las Vegas National Golf Club is also home to the official Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame exhibit. Look for a complete profile in the upcoming issue of Nevada Golf and Leisure Magazine.
