Kruger Leads Fight to Beat Cancer with 18th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic

Lon Kruger, the former UNLV head basketball coach and basketball Hall of Famer, once again hosted the Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic at area courses Southern Highlands, Shadow Creek, TPC Summerlin and Cascata. Dollars and awareness are raised for the cause.

“Coaches from all over the country come in and they use their platforms to not only raise dollars, but also to advocate for others to get involved and fight against cancer, especially the early screening, early detection,” Kruger told Channel 3 in Las Vegas. “That’s a big key, and coaches will do a great job with that platform.”

Kruger has remained committed to the event even after leaving UNLV for Oklahoma. He is now retired from coaching and makes his home in Las Vegas. He is a member of Southern Highlands Golf Club.

“Anytime you can do something with American Cancer Society like Coaches vs. Cancer, you’re contributing to the fight against cancer,” Kruger said. “It’s about raising dollars, but also advocating for others to get involved. And again, the screening is a big key. We still need to talk about it more because you must detect cancer early. If you do, you have a great chance to beat it.”
