Hawaii Hilo Cruises to Fourth Straight PacWest Title at Aliante Golf Club

Aliante Golf Club hosted the Pacwest Men’s Golf Championship earlier this week. Hawaii Hilo captured its fourth consecutive conference title by leading from start to finish. The Vulcans opened with a 10 shot lead, extended it to 14 after the second round, and closed with an 18 shot margin of victory. Their team total of 7 under par stands as the second lowest score in conference history.

The win marked Hawaii Hilo’s seventh PacWest men’s golf championship, all under head coach Earl Tamiya, the most in conference history. Menlo finished second at 11 over par, with Westmont close behind at 12 over. The field remained tightly grouped behind the leader, but no team made a serious move on Hilo throughout the three rounds.

Individually, Hilo’s Dylan Bercan repeated as champion with rounds of 68, 70, and 70 to finish at 8 under par, matching the second lowest medalist total in conference history. Vanguard’s Kyle Koski placed second at 3 under, while Jacobus Brakkee of Jessup and Jose Carlos Liocon of Westmont tied for third at even par. Hawaii Hilo secured the conference’s automatic berth into the NCAA Super Regionals in Stockton, California, May 7 to 9, with additional PacWest players and teams still in contention for at large selections.

Aliante Golf Club is a local’s favorite that hosts college, high school, amateur and other events.
