A main role of a golf instructor is to help their players live their golf dreams. For Tilly Gretsch. a UNLV PGA graduate and former Butch Harmon golf school instructor, the dreams and journeys are now shared goals amongst students and instructors. Gretsch has opened the 16,500-square-foot Gretsch Golf Academy in Las Vegas, and has taken a big swing with a big vision.
“We are everything under one roof,” Gretsch said during a recent tour. “We are a one-stop shop. We are here for your lessons. We’re here for your club fitting. We’re here for your gym, for your practice. We are very Minnesota driven. We have a very Minnesota, nice culture, and we are very welcoming. That’s what we bring here to Gretsch Golf. This dream came about after I left the Butch Harmon School. I moved into my garage, and I was teaching out of there and people were asking to rent my garage, which was not anything this this new setup here now at the Academy. One night I sat there and said, ‘How do I make this bigger? How do I expand this?’ And that’s when I called my aunt and said, ‘We need a bunch of these bays and a short game area. We want everybody just to come here and be supported in any journey that they’re in in the golf game.”
The Gretsch Golf Academy mission is to become a one-stop spot for game improvement and features nine state-of-the-art Foresight hitting bays, a large putting green and short game area with real sand bunkers, a custom club fitting area, and more.
“It’s been a long journey; it’s been five years,” said an emotional Gretsch as we reflected on the hard work and investment needed to make the teaching dream a reality. “I really am still up in the clouds. This building is quite amazing. I mean, It’s pretty cool.”
