Jim Furyk’s first career PGA Tour victory came in the City of Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Invitational in 1995. The Las Vegas Invitational was known as the Shriners Hospital for Children Open, which just marked their last tournament ever in 2025.
He finished with a 90-hole total of 331, which was -28 for the tournament. He was able to get the win by one stroke over Billy Mayfair. Furyk was in his second season as a professional and was able to help solidify his position with some of the rising stars of the tour.
Jim Furyk also claimed wins in Las Vegas in 1998 and 1999. With those wins, he became the first player to win the tournament multiple times, later matched by Las Vegas resident Kevin Na. Furyk has a lot of memories in the City of Las Vegas and all the rounds played here.
“I like coming here and I like playing here,” Furyk said in the book City of Champions: the History of Professional Golf in Las Vegas. “ The weather is perfect this time of year. It’s great to come out here and have some 90-degree weather at times. I came here and I played real well in my rookie year. I was tied for the lead going into the last round and I finished fifth. I think you keep that memory, so I know that when I come here, if I’m playing well, I can produce a score that can win the tournament. It’s good to look back on those memories.”
