Club Champion heads to the PGA Tour

Club Champion is bringing its custom club-fitting expertise to the PGA Tour through a relationship with Scott E.G. Golf, nearly 30 years after a Tour equipment truck helped inspire the company’s creation. The relationship brings Club Champion services and SST PURE shaft technology directly to the PGA Tour through one of the Tour’s independent equipment support trucks.

The connection dates to 1997, when Club Champion founder Nick Sherburne was working the range at the Western Open outside Chicago. Sherburne saw PGA Tour equipment trucks up close and watched the detailed work being done for Tour professionals, including equipment evaluation, club building and adjustments designed specifically for each player. The experience led him to wonder why everyday golfers couldn’t have access to the same level of service, an idea that eventually became Club Champion.

Since then Club Champion now has two Southern Nevada locations located in Henderson and Summerlin.  Club Champion Master Fitters build every club from 65,000+ head, shaft and grip combinations—measured on TrackMan, brand-agnostic, dialed to you. “In 1997, I was working the range at the Western Open and watching what happened inside the Tour vans,” Sherburne said. “The best players in the world had experts who could evaluate their equipment, make incredibly precise adjustments and find solutions based on performance.” Nearly three decades later, Club Champion has grown around that concept, providing custom fitting and club-building services for golfers ranging from beginners and high-handicap players to elite amateurs and professionals.

The company’s PGA Tour presence comes through Scott E.G. Golf and Scott Garrison, who has provided equipment services to Tour professionals since 1997. The Scott E.G. Tour Truck serves as an independent mobile workshop and supports several golf industry companies, including Club Champion, SST PURE, SuperStroke, KBS, ARETERA and Bettinardi. That independent approach fits with Club Champion’s philosophy of evaluating a golfer’s performance and equipment needs without being tied to a single club manufacturer. SST PURE adds another element by analyzing golf shafts to identify their most stable orientation before installation.

For Sherburne, the Tour relationship brings Club Champion back to where the idea started while giving the company another opportunity to work with players at the highest level. But he said the company’s primary philosophy hasn’t changed. “The golfer walking into a Club Champion doesn’t have to be a Tour player to be treated like one,” Sherburne said. “You can be a scratch golfer, a 20-handicap, or a beginner. The mission is the same: understand what you’re trying to accomplish, use data instead of assumptions, and find equipment solutions that can help you shoot lower scores.”
