Charley Hoffman: From UNLV Champion to PGA Tour Champion

Long before he became a four-time PGA Tour winner and one of the most recognizable players in professional golf, Charley Hoffman became a UNLV Rebel golfer. Although he grew up in Southern California, Hoffman’s connection to Southern Nevada began when he enrolled at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and was a key member of the Rebels’ legendary 1998 NCAA Championship team, which confirmed UNLV as one of the nation’s premier collegiate golf programs.

That championship squad included future PGA Tour players Jeremy Anderson and Bill Lunde, while other notable UNLV alumni include Adam Scott, Chris Riley, Chad Campbell, Kurt Kitayama, Harry Hall, and others.

After turning professional in 2000, Hoffman chose to make Las Vegas his home and has remained closely connected to the city throughout his career even after moving back to his native San Diego.

His success on the PGA Tour helped elevate the profile of Las Vegas golf nationally, while his charitable efforts through the Charley Hoffman Foundation have benefited numerous youth-focused organizations in Southern Nevada and San Diego. Following the tragic October 1, 2017, shooting, Hoffman pledged his earnings from the Shriners Children’s Open to support victims and their families, further cementing his reputation as one of the community’s most committed ambassadors.

On the golf course, Hoffman was also a star. He owns four PGA Tour victories, has represented the United States in the Presidents Cup, and has earned more than $36 million in official PGA Tour earnings. He has made more than 360 cuts and over two decades competing against the world’s best players. Today, he ranks among the top 55 all-time in PGA Tour career earnings.

Now 49 years old, Hoffman continues to compete on the PGA Tour. The 2026 season has also presented challenges as he works his way back from shoulder surgery that shortened his 2025 campaign.

Whether competing on the PGA Tour, supporting local charities, or representing his alma mater, Hoffman remains one of Southern Nevada’s most accomplished golf figures. His journey from UNLV national champion to PGA Tour winner and Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame inductee will soon include playing on the PGA Tour Champions in addition to continuing to chase his PGA Tour dreams.
