Boulder Creek Golf Club is Home Away From Home for South Dakota State Golf Teams

Not only do the South Dakota State men’s and women’s golf teams host annual home tournaments at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev., but the schools get there early to play, practice and qualify.

As of this March 9, 2025, posting, the men’s team won the title yet again in 2025, while the women play in a few days. SDSU’s Bryson Mercier won the individual title.

Here’s look at how the facility plays a key role in program success, not only in March but throughout the year.

“This is probably my favorite tournament of the year with the team,” says Parker Edens, head coach. “Our whole team comes, so it’s a fun experience and fun time because we don’t normally travel with everybody. This week is kind of a different vibe …it’s an important week for us, not only for this week’s tournament, but going forward for the rest of the spring season.”

For Schaper, it is always an annual trip back home to play in front of family and friends. And a chance to show off Boulder City to his teammates. Schaper’s father, Andy, opened up Boulder Creek two decades ago and the young Schaper was always around watching and helping–and playing.

“It means everything coming back here,” Schaper says.. “I feel like I grew up at this place. I used to come to work with dad and hang out, go chip and putt and go play some golf. Boulder Creek brought my parents out here. They were in California and they moved here for this golf course. Boulder Creek is very special to everyone in our family.”
