Golf Digest Names Las Vegas Paiute Wolf Island Green One of Best Around

Whenever we post about the par 3, 15th hole on the Wolf Course at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort, the comments go wild. People love the hole, with a sprinkle of hate for the dastardly island green. Well, the Golf Digest editors agree and have included the hole on a list of Best Island Holes in golf. –-By Brian Hurlburt

And the praise was high as the editors say the hole is similar to arguably the most famous island hole in golf, the par 3, 17th at TPC Sawgrass, where the PGA Tour’s PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP is contested.

“The island green at the par-3 15th closely resembles Dye’s signature 17th at TPC Sawgrass’ Stadium Course.” is how the editors simply described the Paiute gem.

In addition to the Wolf Course at the Paiute, there are two additional Pete Dye Signature golf courses that garner praise and attention.

Jeff Reid, the resort’s general manager and former Director of Agronomy, hears comments all of the time about the Paiute island green and about the resort’s quality overall.

“It’s definitely an honor for Golf Digest to include the hole, and it has brought a lot of notoriety to the resort over the years,” Reid said. “And it continues to do that because a lot of our golfers definitely try and play the Wolf Golf course, in particular, because of the Island Green. It’s definitely a fun hole and memorable, but, for me, it is a love-hate relationship because the Wolf course gets a lot of the cache when I know the entire resort and the other two golf courses are just as good as the Wolf.
The island hole deserves all of the attention because it is definitely iconic. It brings a lot of notoriety across the U,S. and the world to the resort. It is a great part of our history.”

The par 3 Wolf Island hole plays from 98 years to 182 yards, and puts hearts in the throats of every level of golfer.

“A lot of people compare it to TPC saw grass because it’s similar,” Reid says. “But we’ve got two bunkers and there are two bailouts/ The bunker in front of the green and there’s a bunker behind the green. That’s your only bailout or safety zone.

“Overall, the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort is a world class destination for golf and the island green is just one part of the overall resort experience.”

Play the Wolf or play the Snow or Sun Mountain courses. The Paiute Resort never disappoints.
