Cain was elected in April 2024 to the new post to represent District 14 (Pacific Northwest, Southwest sections) along with Chris Anderson from District 8 (Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska). He is humbled and honored about the appointment.

“We don’t get to where we are in life alone, so I am representing a lot of people who have helped me along the way,” Cain said. “The game of golf and industry could have taken me anywhere. I’m grateful to call our Las Vegas golfing community home, and further, to live in a loving home. It is an honor to represent those who have supported my ongoing development and journey to serve.”

Cain will serve until the end of 2025. His roles will include traveling to serve his region as well as monthly national board meetings in Frisco, Texas, at the new PGA headquarters. He will also serve the Golf Championships run by the PGA. Most notably, the PGA Championship in Louisville at Valhalla from May 16-19, 2024. Among his responsibilities will be announcing and be part of the champion presentation that CBS will cover. He will also be announcing players on the 1st tee.

“The responsibility is a sobering one,” said Cain, about his new board position. “Now more than ever, it is imperative to lead our Association with conviction by serving the best interests of our 31,000 strong, and support the sustainable practices that continue to grow our global golfing community. When I look into the eyes of our students, alumni, associates, and members who have chosen this career path, I am reminded of the important role this position has in ensuring their pathway of prosperity, growth, and well-being through their work.”

Dr. Chris Cain is sworn in as a National Board Member, PGA of America, in Frisco, Texas, in April 2024.

Cain is one of a select group of PGA Master Professionals and has been a member of the PGA of America since 1999. As a graduate from Penn State’s PGA University (B.S. ‘98) and Recreation, Tourism Management Programs (M.S. ‘04), he served the club and golf industry for 13 years in public, resort, and private settings with management experience in assistant, teaching, and head professional positions.

Cain’s graduate studies included work with Penn State’s PGA University Program, and Departments of Kinesiology, Turfgrass Management, and Exercise and Sports Science. Cain moved from the Philadelphia Section PGA to the Southwest Section PGA in 2004 to lead UNLV’s PGA University Program.

While working as Program Director, Cain served the PGA at local, regional, and national levels. Cain’s service with the Southern Nevada Chapter in 2004 evolved to Past President in 2013. For two terms he served the Southwest Section Board of Directors, and chaired several committees from 2011-2014. Cain also served terms as an appointed member of the Board of Directors for allied associations including: The First Tee of Southern Nevada (junior body); the Southern Nevada Golf Association (amateur body); the National Advisory Board to Reed Exhibitions (development strategies for the PGA Show and Fall Expo); and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Nevada Golf Alliance.

“This is a pretty neat opportunity to represent and foster the myriad of services the PGA professional provides,” Cain said. “A main mission is to advance the well-being of people who enjoy the game, and perhaps more importantly, those who have not had the opportunity to discover the joy. This is truly a blessing to be part of the national board and the PGA of America. And UNLV and the Las Vegas golf community.”
