Duncan Wins Belt at Boulder Creek Las Vegas Desert College Golf Classic

Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City has a reputation for hosting some of the top amateur and professional events in Las Vegas and Southern Nevada. On March 4-5, 2024, the course hosted the Las Vegas Desert Classic Div. II event, won by Lincoln Memorial (team) and Adam Duncan (Individual). Here’s the story.

Duncan hoisted the championship belt following his individual victory, while Lincoln Memorial win the team title. The event was hosted by University of Missouri-St. Louis.

“The hospitality, Andy and the staff here have been unbelievable,” said Troy Halterman, UMSL head coach. “This is the 12th year of this event and we’ve now been at Boulder Creek the last two years. We’ve been to quite a few different golf courses throughout the Las Vegas area and none have done a better job hosting us, making us feel welcome, and being flexible to make it a success.”

Duncan, who finished the event at -13 with 20 birdies to win the title. Now he has a new friend to bring to class with him.

“I’m going to wear it to class tomorrow, probably,” said Duncan about his new championship belt he earned with the victory. “It means a lot. It’s one of the best Division II golf tournaments and something you want to win. I’m super happy I was able to get it done . It’s super good to tournament to win. So many good competitors. The course is awesome. It’s a really good championship golf course. We’re always glad to be here.”

LMU took first with a 26-under 838 (276-289-273) through three rounds.

Four golfers would finish under par in the tournament. The Splitters were led by George Durkan, who finished tied for fourth with his rounds of 67-73-67 (-9). Loic Naas would also have an impressive outing, finishing tied for sixth at -7 (70-72-67). Max Reynolds’ rounds of 68-73-71 would be good for a tie in 13th place. Jamie Dean would also snag a Top 20 finish, shooting two-under collectively through his 75-71-68 rounds. Alex James would finish tied for 34th, with rounds of 71-75-72.

The win marked the second of the 2023-24 season for the Railsplitters. The #2 ranked squad will be back in action on Monday, March 11th, for the opening round of the Southeastern Collegiate at Kinderlou Forest in Valdosta, GA.
