Dustin Johnson Uses LIV Golf Vegas Vibes to Roll to Individual Victory at Las Vegas Country Club

There is no doubt there is LIV Golf hate out there, proven by social media comments throughout LIV Golf Las Vegas at historic Las Vegas Country Club. BUT, the LIV Golf love is also very real as well, proven by the turnout and more during the inaugural event in Vegas for the upstart pro golf tour. –By Brian Hurlburt, www.LasVegasGolfInsider.com

Dustin Johnson felt the Vegas vibe en route to winning the individual title after a final-round with fellow heavyweights Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau in the the Marquee pairing. And the Brooks Koepka-captained Smash GC ran away with the team title.

“It was a great week, and a great turnout today with the fans,” DJ said. “There were a ton of fans out there. I felt like the energy was high. It was a lot of fun. Obviously, it was a little chilly and really breezy, but the weather was really nice. I think it was a great turnout and great support. You could feel the energy out there, for sure.”

Below is the official Dustin Johnson press conference video.

Johnson finished  at -12 after making a clutch birdie on the par 4, 17th hole (plays as 8 for the members) in the shadows of the historic Regency Towers. The victory was proof positive that Johnson is committed and ready for the 2024 season.

“I did not play very well last year, and it kind of goes with how much effort I put into it, too,” Johnson said. “I obviously could have worked a lot harder than I did. This year I’ve got a little more drive and determination because I don’t enjoy not playing well. I enjoy playing well. I enjoy being up here talking to you guys after the week is over, and I really enjoy holding up the trophies at the end\ of the week.”

Johnson’s commitment was confirmed by father-in-law and hockey legend Wayne Gretzky following the round on the 18th green while DJ celebrated the victory.

“I called him at 6 a.m. this morning to go to breakfast and he told me he was already at the course preparing,” The Great One said. Also on the green celebrating the victory were Janet Gretzky and DJ’s wife, Paulina.

LIV Golf Las Vegas seemed to live up to the hype and Johnson made a plea to anyone listening as he summed up the press conference.

“If it you haven’t been to an event, then I would invite you to come out and watch because you’re going to like it,” Johnson said. “I think it’s just something that all the fans that come, they all seem to like it. They all seem to have a good time. The more, the merrier.”

On-the-ground fans comments proved Johnson’s words correct. LIV Golf has changed the game, whether people like it or not.
