Las Vegas’ Parrish, Corey Earn Spots in Prestigious USGA Amateur Events

Headed to the U.S. Amateur and the U.S. Senior Amateur are Las Vegas golfers Jackson Parrish and James Corey, respectively. The two recently won low medalist honors during qualifiers held in Southern Nevada and coordinated by the Southern Nevada Golf Association in conjunction with the United States Golf Association.

Parrish fired rounds of 63-67—130 to earn medalist honors in the 2023 U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifying tournament held July 11-12, 2023, at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The main event is Aug. 14-20, 2023, at Cherry Hills Golf Club in Colorado.

“I’m real happy with where my game is right now,” he said. “Now I’ll just try to clean up a couple of things and get ready for Cherry Hills.”

Corey, a Red Rock Country Club member, used his home course knowledge to earn his spot in the main event that is scheduled for Aug. 26-31, 2023, at Martis Camp Club in Truckee, Calif. He fired a 3-under par 69 for co-medalist honors on the Mountain Course at Red Rock CC. The other qualifier was Brett Curtis from California.

“I got the best advice,” he said. “And that is just stick to your game. Someone else is going to hit it further than you and a lot of them will have national championship experience. Just take it one step at a time. The first step is making the cut…give myself a chance.”
