Yana Wilson, who grew up playing in the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association and won a state title at Coronado, continues to make huge moves nationally and internationally. The 2022 U.S. Junior Girls champ and recent Oregon commit, won the AJGA portion of the LPGA Tour’s Mizuho Americas Open and watched as Rose Zhang won her professional debut.
The top 24 girls in the AJGA rankings were invited to compete at Liberty National in a Stableford format. The juniors played together for the first two rounds in between the two waves of LPGA players. Over the weekend, they were paired with the pros. It was the first time the event was played at Michelle Wie West served as the hostest.
“To win this event was really meaningful to me. Especially since it’s the first year of the event and we are playing alongside the pros it adds a little bit more pressure, but I had a lot of fun and it meant a lot to win,” Wilson said.
Wilson was paired with Minjee Lee, her favorite LPGA Tour title who she had met several years ago. Wilson will continue a big summer with an appearance at the upcoming U.S. Women’s Senior Open at Pebble Beach.
Zhang became the first player to win an LPGA Tour professional debut since 1951. Who knows, Wilson could be next in a few years.
