There are just too many college golf events in Southern Nevada to count, and many of those take place at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The events generally have a local tie with former junior golf and/or high school standouts returning to the 702 to play in front of family and friends. The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship offers another example as Cassidy Phelan and Crystle Querol are home and playing for Colorado Mesa.
We caught up with them after round two and they shared memories of college golf and their thoughts about returning home to the Las Vegas Area.
For Phelan, it was a true full circle moment because the first-ever junior tournament (a US Kids event) she played in was held at Boulder Creek. And she also fondly recalled winning the Warrior Invitational held at Legacy Golf Club, also located in Southern Nevada.

For Querol, a Coronado High alum, she fondly remembers playing Boulder Creek countless times with her teammates. She definitely felt the nostalgia of coming home to play.

After 2 of three rounds, Coiorado Mesa is tied for third while Phelan is in a tie for sixth individually. Querol is tied for 30th.
Overall, Colorado Christian’s men join the Colorado State University Pueblo women atop their respective standings. The Cougars vaulted their way to the top of the men’s table with an incredible second round that featured a tournament-low 65 from Xavier Bighaus, giving CCU a team score of 557 and a two-shot advantage heading into the final day. The Pack was led by its team captain, Kylie Severin, who shot four strokes under par and carded a 68 on Monday. CSU Pueblo enters the final round of the women’s tournament with a 25-stroke lead and a team score of 582.
This is the second conference golf championship hosted by Boulder Creek in a week. And next week the Western Athletic Conference Championships visit the 27-hole facility. In the future, Boulder Creek is scheduled to host the NCAA Division III men’s national golf championship in 2024, the Division II women’s national golf championship in 2025 and the Division II men’s 2026 national championship.
