Las Vegas National Golf Club is located in the heart of Las Vegas and is easy get-to for locals. and is minutes from the Las Vegas Strip for those visiting the city that glitters.
During July and August, you will find some respite from the sun in the shady spots that were also once walked by LPGA Tour and PGA Tour legends.
Las Vegas National has hosted dozens of PGA Tour tournaments including the 1967-68 PGA Tour Tournament of Champions. More recently, it was one of three host courses when Tiger Woods won his first PGA Tour event, the Las Vegas Invitational. The other two courses were Desert Inn and TPC Summerlin.
The LPGA Tour played the LPGA Championship at National (then called Stardust Country Club) from 1961-66. It all adds up to a journey through Vegas golf history.
In the clubhouse is the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame exhibit that features the trophy Tiger won and also the trophy from the PGA Tour’s Sahara Invitational, which was played at the course for many years in the 60s and 70s.
But back to the shade. The large trees shadow the rough areas, but also throw shade on some of the fairways, tee boxes and even some greens.
Yes, the trees can wreak havoc with an errant shot, but the shade in the summer is more than worth the punch out shots you have to hit.
And be sure to pair your round with the specials that are offered in the Rat Pack Bar & Grill or the snack shack located between the first and 10th tees.
Now is the time to be Made in the Shade at Las Vegas National.
