Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort to Welcome Korn Ferry Tour, Local Pros

There are only 54 holes of Pete Dye-signature golf in the Las Vegas Golf Region, and all are located at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. And 18 of those holes–the Sun Mountain course–are scheduled to host the Korn Ferry Tour Paiute Las Vegas Championship April 15-18, 2021. The field should also see at least four Las Vegas residents playing: David Lipsky plus former UNLV golfers Harry Hall, John Oda and Taylor Montgomery. –By Brian Hurlburt, Las Vegas Golf Insider.

“Given that we’re a 54-hole club, we had the flexibility to offer up our Sun Mountain course and the desire to showcase our resort to the professional golf world,” said Jeff Reid, General Manager at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Golf Resort. “We are glad that we are in position to host the Korn Ferry Tour during these uncertain times while bringing much needed economic impact to Las Vegas, as well as to help continue to grow the game of golf. This will be a win-win for all involved.”

A field of 156 players vying for a $600,000 purse is expected. The Vegas contingent could well have a strong say in the winner as each are enjoying success on the Korn Ferry Tour. At this writing, Lipsky is 11th in the points standings after winning the TPC San Antonio Challenge and finishing T2 at the WinCo Foods Portland Open. Montgomery is 23rd in season points and “the 25” earn full PGA Tour status for 2021-22. He also recently won the $150,000 Nevada Open. Oda finished T2 at the Tour’s first event of the season, the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay. Hall earned Korn Ferry Tour status halfway through the 2020 season with three top-10 finishes in the first nine starts of his career.

“We are excited to bring the Korn Ferry Tour to Las Vegas and continue building on the tremendous history between this community and the PGA TOUR,” said Korn Ferry Tour President Alex Baldwin. “With bdG Sports, we have a vibrant partner with a great track record of building spectacular events across a number of sports platforms, and we know our debut next April will further that tradition. The Sun Mountain Course at the Paiute Resort is an ideal venue to host the next generation of PGA TOUR stars and will provide our players a world-class experience both on and off the course throughout the duration of tournament week.”

Montgomery will look to build upon his recent success when it comes to the April event at Paiute and despite dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, he was pleased with the state of his game.

“The COVID thing was a little weird for the Korn Ferry season and now we still have a completely new season coming up, but all the points I currently have will roll over,” Montgomery said following his Nevada Open win. “However, it’s still another year to go, so I am going to have to go out and play very well if I want to be on the PGA tour. … My game has been solid for the last probably three or four months and I’ve had some good tournaments.”

The professional golf spotlight hits Las Vegas again in April 2021 (there were two PGA Tour events in Vegas in fall 2020) and will shine brightly on the Paiute Resort and some local talent. All should be ready to shine accordingly.

The Paiute Resort routinely gets positive reviews from golfers, including the Sun Mountain course. Currently, 312 of the 423 reviews on GolfAdvisor.com are 5 out of 5 stars and an additional 97 are four stars for Sun Mountain. Overall, the course has a rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars.

Here’s a recent review from end of September 2020:

Paiute exceeds expectations

I’m a Clark Co. resident. Most of my usual courses are in the stages of overseeding, so I traveled the 50 minutes north to play Paiute Sun Mountain, one of three courses there. There’s nothing I could possibly complain about. Very nice practice facility, beautiful course layout in impeccable condition, played in 3 and one half hours. Friendly staff. Beverage carts on the course. Nice clubhouse and restaurant with good food. I’ll be back. If I lived closer, I’d make this my home course.–BryTay, GolfAdvisor.com.
