Designed by Jack Nicklaus Design and Cal Olson, the par 72 layout stretches to 7,032 yards from the tips and is a thinking player’s course. Water comes into play on six of the holes. Throw in more than 60 bunkers and you’ve got a course where the premium is on accuracy, not brute strength.
If you haven’t played the course, the design and the trip give players the perfect excuse for a golf getaway.
“We don’t over seed so we are green year round and ready to go,” said Randall Mudge, general manager. “And it’s a pretty easy drive (from Vegas) for people to get here.”
One of the course’s more impressive holes is the par-4 13th. The hole may be short, but it’s daunting. At 360 yards, the hole is a severe dogleg left (think of a reverse ‘C’) and gives players plenty of options off the tee in club selection. Hint: Driver isn’t always necessary but accuracy is a must as a pond guards the left side of the dogleg while bunkers stand guard on the right. Bunkers short-left and behind the green will test players’ approach skills and nerves.
Mudge added the par 3s, ranging from 172 yards to 207 yards from the tips, will also grab players’ attention. “They are all very challenging, both in length and what’s around them to guard the greens,” he said.
Now we get back to the birdie and eagle deals on your round that add value.
The birdie package ($89) includes 18 holes of golf, the use of a cart, a sleeve of Callaway golf balls, a $20 golf shop certificate and two drink tickets.
Upgrade to the eagle package ($119) and other enhancements include rental clubs, range balls and a second sleeve of Callaway golf balls. This one’s ideal for those visiting the Vegas area that didn’t bring their clubs.
“The certificates are good for both the golf shop and the restaurant,” Mudge said. “It really adds to the value.”
For regular play, Clark County and Nye County residents can play 18 holes for as little as $35 while Elite Golf Preferred Rates can let players tee it up for as little as $25. Out of town rates range from $39-$78. All rates depend on the day of the week they want to play and the tee times golfers choose. The course is professionally managed and maintained by Elite Golf Management.
“We have five sets of tees so the course is definitely playable for everyone,” Mudge said. “Each set of tees will offer different challenges to each of the holes for players.”
